The Plein Air concludes with a studio celebration on Saturday, September 14, 2024, and a work exhibition of the Plein Air participants at the New Gallery in the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio.

The fellowship will be awarded in May 2024. The application deadline is April 15, 2024.
(For participants: 500 EUR as well as accommodation at the Forsthaus Damerow; international participants will receive an additional allowance of 400 EUR, while participants from Germany will receive 300 EUR.)

Applications with a CV and a presentation of your previous work should be sent to:

The "XIII. International Plein Air at the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio" continues the tradition of successful artist Plein Air events that have been held every two to three years at the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio: "Shore-Beginning and End of the World," "SEA-Sight," "Riders on the Big Bear – Otto Niemeyer-Holstein in Switzerland," "Witnesses of Time - Traces of Change," and "Painter Friends." The VIII. International Plein Air celebrated a milestone: 100 artists hosted at the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio. In 2024, the Freundeskreis Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, Lüttenort e.V. will celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Since 1994, 94 artists from Argentina, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Lithuania, Poland, Switzerland, the UK, Chile, Iran, the USA, Ukraine, Estonia, India, and Germany have stayed at the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio.

For the thirteenth time, artists are invited to Lüttenort, at the estate of the painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein. Located at the narrowest point of the island of Usedom in the far northeastern part of Germany, this location is well-suited to establish a connection between Northern and Southern Europe.
Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, regarded as one of the most significant painters of the German Baltic Sea coast, emphasizes the connecting element through his work: water. One of the artist’s key traits was his pursuit of contact and exchange with other artists. For several years, he served as an official ambassador for art, as the president of the Baltic Sea Biennale.

In November 2023, personal invitations will be sent based on the recommendations of the jury members, and announcements will be made in the press and with artist associations. The application deadline is April 15, 2024.
In late April, the jury, chaired by Sabine Curio, will meet. From the applications, six artists will be selected for the XIII. International Plein Air at the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio in Lüttenort. The selected artists will be announced in the press.

Artists who are invited should, like Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, be "admirers of the visible world" (Joachim John), working representationally, so that they can engage with the locality: the island of Usedom and the artist’s estate in Lüttenort.

The conclusion of the Plein Air will be marked by a "Studio Celebration" on Saturday, September 14, 2024, with a small exhibition of the works created during the ten days at the New Gallery in the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio.

Best regards,
Franka Keil
