Artists' Meeting on the Island of Usedom
"XI. International Plein Air at the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio 2017"
September 6 - 16, 2017
The atmosphere is positive, curious, and enthusiastic as eight artists are currently experiencing the property of the painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein for the first time on the island of Usedom. Invited by the museum's support association, the artists from Germany, India, and Lithuania will work on the island for ten days. Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, considered one of the most important painters of the German Baltic Sea coast, always kept his home open for exchanges with fellow artists and was interested in diverse connections. In keeping with this legacy, the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Friendship Circle, Lüttenort e.V., with the support of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald, is organizing the XI. International Plein Air event. This year, the jury had the particularly difficult task of selecting participants from 102 applications.
Artists applying should, like Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, be "admirers of the visible world" (Joachim John), working figuratively to be able to engage with the local environment: the island of Usedom and the artist's estate. To date, 79 artists have stayed at the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Studio at the invitation of the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein Friendship Circle, Lüttenort e.V., contributing to the island’s promotion in a unique way.
