The gallery extension,

realised in 2000, offers a deeper engagement with Otto Niemeyer-Holstein´s work and was designed by the artist himself.

Shortly before his death he asked friends who are architects Siegbert Langer von Hatzfeldt and Heinz Schönwälder, come up with first preliminary designs. These designs were then discussed in collaboration with the artist´s family, friends and the museum advisory board.

The newly build, modern annex, which aims only to be a ‘frame for pictures’ and extends the concept of the memorial studio. An important task of the gallery is the presentation of changing exhibitions of works by Niemeyer-Holstein, the Usedom circle of artists and like-minded contemporaries, who in the widest sense share the commitment to the principles of classical modernism.

In accordance with Niemeyer-Holstein's wish to continue shaping Lüttenort as a "space of encounter" and exchange about art, concerts and readings are held annually.
